Oldham County Public Library Summer Reading Program
Get Your Game On
New this year to the Summer Reading Program: No registration required! That's right, you don't have to register to participate in the fun at the Library this summer (some events require individual registration, see listing for details). You merely have to submit your reading online once you have completed the program requirements. Once submitted, you'll receive an email certificate that you can turn in at any location for your prize bags! No matter your age or location, there is something for everyone this summer at the Oldham County Public Libraries. Check out all the events and get to a library!
Children's SRP- For Children up to the 5th Grade
Participants can read anything they like this summer– books, e-books, magazines, newspapers, listen to audio books or try a Playaway. Reading a little bit every day, they will fill in the reading log for every 15 minutes read. Once 5 reading hours have been completed, participants can submit their reading log online to get their prize certificate. This certificate can be presented at any OCPL location for a prize pack and swim party ticket! Submit a reading log here. More information about programs here.
Wee Readers- for Children ages 2 years and younger
This program is designed to help parents of young children start sharing the joys of reading at an early age! Parents will record books read to their child. Once the reading log is complete, the child will receive a pass to the end of summer pool party and the parents will be entered into a prize drawing for a dinner for two. Submit a Wee Reader's Reading Log here.
Countdown to Kindergarten
Countdown to Kindergarten is your child’s gateway into school readiness. Participants will receive a free t-shirt that is their ticket to fun events this summer. Shirts can be picked up at the Main Library starting June 4th, or at any OCPL location starting June 6th. Your shirt is your admission to free events in Oldham and Jefferson County. A complete list of events will be given to participants when they receive their shirt. These events are geared specifically to build excitement for school and to introduce children to their peers. Special events at the Main Library include:
- June 25th, 11am: Family concert with children's musician Laura Doherty. Main Library in LaGrange, no registration required.
- July 23rd, 11am: Comedy show with Mr. Magic. Main Library in LaGrange, no registration required.
Teens participating in the Summer Reading Challenge will keep track of their reading online or by using a paper reading log. Reading one book earns teens coupons and a single prize entry for our grand prize drawing. Prizes include an iPad mini, flat screen TVs, Beats headphones, gift cards, and event tickets to local attractions. Reading a second book earns teens a ticket to our Urban Ninja event and another prize entry. Read three books to complete the program and earn another grand prize entry and a ticket to our Teen Only Pool Party at the Aquatic Center. Teens can read more books to earn more entries into the prize drawing. Reading submissions of students from OC schools will be sent electronically to ensure credit for any school assignments. Submit a reading log here! More information about programs here.
