Oldham County Public Library
To protect the interests of the taxpayers of Oldham County who support the library system, the Oldham County Public Library has adopted the following overdue materials policy:
1. There will be a charge of five cents ($.05) per day per item for all overdue library materials except those materials from special collections that have a different, established overdue charge. The per day overdue charge will begin at the time of opening on the next business day after the due date of the item and will be accrued at time of opening for each day that the item is past due.
2. Because a book deposit is available at each library, there will be a charge for Sundays and holidays and during other closings except for periods when the library specifically announces that overdue charges have been waived. Fines will be waived for any items due on days the library is closed due to weather or other emergencies.
3. The maximum charge for overdue materials will be five dollars ($5.00) per family (same household) for items returned at the same time except for those materials from special collections that have a different, established maximum overdue charge. To eliminate extensive record keeping, items returned at different times will be subject to separate maximum charges.
4. Any patron with unpaid overdue charges of $1 or more will be denied checkout privileges.
5. Any expenses incurred in an attempt to secure the return of library materials will be charged to the patron. These charges may include, but not be limited to, materials, postage, and court cost. There will be a $10 service fee for any returned checks.
6. The patron will be charged for materials not returned, or not returned in usable condition, at the current replacement cost for the same format and binding. If a current replacement cost is not available, the original purchase price will be used.
7. Any patron with materials checked out in their name that are two or more weeks past due will be denied checkout privileges.
8. Any patron who has overdue materials or other charges on record may renew their library card but may not check out materials until all overdue items and charges have been cleared from their record.
9. The conditions of this policy apply to the entire library system, not any single location. Overdue materials from one location will result in overdue charges and denial of checkout privileges at all locations.
10. An attempt will be made to notify the patron of overdue materials as soon as possible. However, failure to receive notice of overdue materials or charges does not constitute a waiver of this policy or any of the conditions of this policy.
11. The conditions of this policy do not apply to special overdue rates and restrictions established for any special collection. Any such established overdue rates and restrictions shall supersede this policy.
This policy becomes effective October 12, 2006, and replaces any previous policy regarding overdue materials, written or implied. The Board of Trustees of the Oldham County Public Library reserves the right to amend, alter, or revoke this policy if it is deemed necessary or desirable to do so.
