Oldham County

Public Library

Book Donation Policy

The Oldham County Public Library gratefully accepts donated books and other materials that are in good condition.

The currency of the materials you want to donate is important to us. In general we are happy to accept donations with publication dates within the last three years. Paperback fiction should have been published within a year.

We do not accept textbooks, books with ragged covers or pages, materials that have a “musty smell”, mildew or water damage, or  materials with discolored pages.  Magazines, paperback children’s materials and duplicated music cd’s, books on tape and videos are not accepted except for re-sale.

Local history and genealogy items are especially welcome as are spoken word books on cassette and cd and videos and dvds in good working condition.

Materials are accepted between Monday and Friday and are not accepted on weekends. Please call before bringing large amounts of donated items. All donated materials are reviewed by our staff before being added to the library collection.

The Library accepts books as donations with the understanding that they may be disposed of in a manner most convenient to the Library if the books are not added to the collection. Means of disposing of books not added include sale, donation to other institutions and, when necessary, destruction. The Library issues a receipt for books donated upon request but does not establish a monetary value for the donation.
